Searching for something to add some storage to her kitchen, this customer knew she wanted shabby chic. She previously purchased a piece that was the perfect proportions for her place, but knew it needed a major update. After contacting Chic and Shabby, we worked together to come up with this custom made kitchen cabinet to solve her storage issue.
Chipped up, worn down and showing YEARS of wear and tear, this piece was not in great condition. After sanding the surface to smooth out all of those chips and chunks, I was greeted with a surprise…. a laminate top!
(*insert totally surprised/are you kidding me face*)
The laminate was deceiving and mimicked the wood perfectly. After this discovery, it was on. I was ready to take on the chalk paint challenge.
I painted the base in a blue/grey chalk paint, distressed it by hand, sealed the cabinet with a soft wax, and kept the original hardware. After a couple of layers of white primer, I painted the top in a blue/grey latex paint. It was then covered in a charcoal latex paint, hand-distressed to allow those previous colors to come through, and sealed with a water based poly-acrylic .
Quite a challenge, but what a success. This piece had tons of storage, but now also tons of style. Are you surrounded by stuff and don’t have enough space? Big bins and baskets tend to lack style and don’t suit every space. Contact me about a custom order!
