Shabby chic, a term coined by The World of Interiors Magazine in the late 80’s, is a style centered around the appearance of age and wear and tear. Who buys furniture that is made to look old? The same people who buy ripped jeans. Just kidding, you can buy shabby chic in khakis OR your prom dress. Although it is best known for distressed or antiqued wood furniture, the style also consists of soft cottons and linens typically in pure whites or pastels. Sometimes considered ‘cottage style’ or ‘French country’, shabby chic has a heavy influence from Tuscany, Greece, and southern France.
